| Unpack your fishing pole, grab your lures and head to Wellfleet waters for some of the finest fishing on the Cape. Saltwater fishermen cruise the Bay from the Target Ship off Eastham to the tip of Provincetown. Launch a boat at the Town Pier, or schedule a trip with local charter boats. From spring to early summer, look for mackerel, flounder, cod, tautog and striped bass. Feisty bluefish are plentiful in the summer, and tuna an elusive but profitable catch from July on. |
| Wellfleet's freshwater ponds are stocked with several varieties of trout, joining native perch, large and smallmouth bass, pickerel and sunfish. Gull, Great and Long Ponds are the largest and most accessible. Fishing licenses are not required for saltwater fishing; freshwater anglers age 15 and up can obtain licenses at Town Hall. Always check Fish & Game Regulations for species size limits and quantity. |

| Alongside the wild fishery for oysters, quahogs and steamers aquaculture has re-emerged as a major industry in Wellfleet. Yellow buoys along the bayside mark the leased grant area that the commercial fishermen plant and tend. You can try your hand at clamming and oystering yourself. The town stocks and maintains a designated area for visitors. Obtain your license at the Beach Sticker building and head for a day on the flats. Who knows, you might pick up dinner. |
